Carpe Diem colt
A dominant Grade 1 winner at both 2 and 3, WinStar’s incredible new stallion CARPE DIEM was a superstar from the get-go. From a record-breaking sales topping $1.6 million (the all-time highest-priced two-year-old by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY), to a TDN Rising Star-worthy debut at Saratoga, all the way up to his second Grade 1 triumph in the $1 million Blue Grass Stakes (G1) that made him one of the favorites for the prestigious Kentucky Derby (G1) among one of the best crops of 3-year-olds the industry has seen in recent history, all on his way to earning more than $1.5 million (as Giant’s Causeway’s only American colt to earn that much on dirt)...expectations have always been at an elite level for CARPE DIEM, and now he will look to meet them yet again as one of North America's most exciting young stallions. Standing for $25k, he bred 306 mares in his first two books combined and is now a hit in the sales ring with nine six-figure first-crop weanlings at Keeneland November (the most of any first-crop sire), commanding final bids of $320k, $215k, $200k, $180k, $150k, $130k, $115k, $110k, and $110k. This colt is out of the stakes-placed CAME HOME mare Home Crowd, who is a half-sister to G1-winner FUNNY MOON and stakes winner THRONG. In her young broodmare career Home Crowd is off to an impressive start: from three other registered foals (all by UNBRIDLED’S SONG), all three were big money at the sales and went on to successfully race, with to winners to date: UNBRIDLED HERO, who commanded a final bid of $325k at Saratoga to Whisper Hill Farm and is a multiple race winner; PRETTY PHILLY, who sold for $85k at Keeneland and is also a winner; and most recently UNBRIDLED WEST, who was purchased by John C. Oxley for $170k at Fasig-Tipton October and is race-placed.
